Scientists Take Up Artificial Intelligence To Improve NASA’s Eyes On The Sun
(PC: weather.com) A group of researchers is using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to calibrate NASA’s images of the Sun. For over a decade, NASA’s Solar Dynamic Observatory provided high-definition images of the Sun. The Atmospheric Imagery Assembly or AIA is one of the two imaging instruments on SDO that continuously looks at the Sun, capturing images across 10 wavelengths of ultraviolet light every 12 seconds. Even though this provides useful information, the AIA or similar Sun-staring instruments degrade over time, and data needs to be frequently calibrated. To overcome this drawback, scientists decide to look for other techniques to calibrate the instrument. Machine learning was a perfect solution. With the help of this technique, it can recognize a solar flame without degradation.
